How bad would this suck???!

Twins that were separated at birth wound up marrying each other never knowing that they were brother and sister!

Man, that is gut wrenching. Evidently, they had their marriage annulled. I can't imagine having to live through something like that.

A good case for legalizing incest, no? For some of my readers, that wouldn't pose a problem, but even if they had decided to stay married, I think it would feel extremely weird to know you're married to your twin!

From the side column at the article I linked to above there was this:

THE twins would have felt a “lightning bolt” attraction from the moment they met, according to an expert.

Dr Glenn Wilson, of the Institute of Psychiatry, said we create a blueprint of our perfect partner based on our opposite-sex parent.

We are also attracted to partners who look like us.

He said: “If you are raised separately from a close family member there is a tendency to experience a powerful lightning bolt attraction to them if you meet in later life. It can be an incredibly intense response and almost impossible to resist.”

But siblings growing up together don’t fall for each other because “familiarity breeds contempt”.

Dr Wilson added: “We don’t fancy anyone we’re raised with. It’s probably a mechanism to protect the gene pool.”

That's confusing. First it says that we'd feel an instant attraction to our siblings if we met not knowing we were related, yet at the end of the article, Dr. Wilson says that we "don't fancy anyone we're raised with". If that's due to a mechanism that protects the gene pool (as he suggests), how does it only occur if siblings are raised together rather than if their not?

I remember reading something about this one time.....I'll have to google a while.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I just got an email from a cyber friend of mine I met in one of the science forums a few years ago. He and his wife are the proud parents of a new baby girl!! Yes, he's a fan of Darwin, but he's one of the very few people I've encountered in this debate who can actually discuss the issues without the ridicule, arrogance, and anger.

Congratulations, Monkey Boy!!!!

LOL

Take a peek.

Be thankful that you evolved along the more preferable branch of ape like creatures

Well, at least we can be thankful that we've evolved far enough along that we no longer eat dirt.

But then, in comparison to what some of us live off of, perhaps dirt would be the better option...

Yes, this post is completely irrelevant to anything other than the fact that *I'm hungry*. I read that article about the dirt eaters and started envisioning all the yummy things that we humans get to enjoy.

Sigh...

I was doing so well with my dieting toward the beginning of the week (had lost 3 pounds), but yesterday I didn't get on that treadmill, and I ate two burritos and a *big* 'ol bowl of popcorn after 7PM. This morning I got on the scale and I've gained 2 of those pounds back.

Ugh...

[edit: whoops! My link above didn't work...I fixed it. Note the reason why I said that we may be better off eating dirt than a grease burger and fries...dirt is actually good for the chimps.

In related news...when my kids were little, I never washed their pacifiers when they fell to the floor. Neither did I use bacterial soaps etc. that so many parents are fond of these days. I figured they needed to deal with bacteria and build their immune systems. Scientific or not, my kids were *rarely* ill when they were young.]

Yes...my boys love remote control planes

I've written in the past that my husband and two sons are obsessed with RC planes. They've bought a few of the kits in the past, but now they just print the free plans from the Internet and build them from scratch. It's much cheaper, and my husband absolutely loves making them. I'm of course much happier because when they crash I don't watch our hard earned money falling from the sky. They are pretty good at repairing them, but they are never as pretty as they were initially. At this point, they are still much better at building them than flying them. They do great with the smaller easier planes, but they've been delving into the big stuff which is harder to fly.

My oldest found a Veloc-E-Raptor's F-22 on the Internet, and has been absolutely drooling over it for days. My husband printed off the plans and is all psyched to build it.

I'm so glad that they've found a hobby that they all like working on together. Between that and hunting, they get a lot of bonding time with their Dad. Mom gets stuck being the one to help them with their homework, but it's kinda of interesting to see what they're learning. They're both really good boys, and I feel very blessed to have them.

Here's a Youtube of what their latest undertaking should look like when they get it finished...

Dr. Craig on The Problem of Evil

Yesterday, we considered Dr. Zacharias' thoughts in regard to the problem of evil. Today, let's listen in with Dr. Craig...

The problem of evil is such a deeply religious and philosophical question that it cannot, of course, be answered in a 5 minute youtube clip. Nevertheless, the clips are interesting and they get a person thinking about why God allows bad things to happen to good people.

The Hooking-Up Sub Culture

The new "hook-up" lifestyle on our college campuses is wrong, disgusting, and seriously harmful on so many levels.

William Lane Craig addresses the issue at his audio blog.

I've had so many people ask me why I think sex outside of marriage is such a big deal. They seem to think that my reasons are merely because "the bible tells me so". Well, the truth is that "the bible tells me so" for good reason. We were created by an all knowing God, and who better to instruct us as to the best way in which to live the lives we were created to live?

I've also had people ask me what's wrong with porn? Although Lane doesn't address porn specifically, the reasons are the same as why we shouldn't engage in "hook ups". Some have even had the audacity to state that watching porn isn't hurting anyone, so what's the biggie? I wonder if they would say that if they were watching their son or daughter on that Internet screen or in that porn magazine. Can they possibly think that those who are engaging in pornography are not doing harm to their lives? When people watch porn, they are encouraging and supporting the activity. Not a good thing....listen to the audio very carefully as there is a lot of wisdom in Craig's words.

Now, let's consider Richard Dawkin's views on sex outside of marriage...

[Note that he bases his sexual morality on DARWINISM.]

[Also note that he is talking about marital infidelity, not promoting "hook-ups". There is, of course, a difference, but be sure to consider that slippery slope.]

No, of course sex outside marriage is not a public matter, and yes, of course it is forgivable. Only a person infected by the sort of sanctimonious self-righteousness that religion uniquely inspires would apply the meaningless word 'sin' to private sexual behavior.

It is the mark of the religious mind that it cares more about private than public morality. As the bumper sticker slogan put it, "When Clinton lied, nobody died." Officially, Bill Clinton was impeached not for sexual misconduct but for lying about it. But he was entitled to lie about his private life: one could even make a case that he had a positive duty to do so. Tony Blair should have been impeached for lying to the House of Commons about alleged evidence for weapons of mass destruction, because his lies persuaded Members to vote for a war when they otherwise would not. Lying to Congress by saying, "I did not have sex with that woman" should not be an impeachable offense, because where a man puts his penis is none of Congress's damn business. Nor is it any journalist's damn business whether a politician once took drugs at university. Or whether he is gay.
...

Returning to the original topic of sex outside marriage, I want to raise another question that interests me. Why are we so obsessed with monogamous fidelity in the first place? Agony Aunt columns ring with the cries of those who have detected -- or fear -- that their man/woman (who may or may not be married to them) is "cheating on them". “Cheating” really is the word that occurs most readily to these people. The underlying presumption -- that a human being has some kind of property rights over another human being’s body -- is unspoken because it is assumed to be obvious. But with what justification?

In one of the most disgusting stories to hit the British newspapers last year, the wife of a well-known television personality, Chris Tarrant, hired a private detective to spy on him. The detective reported evidence of adultery and Tarrant’s wife divorced him, in unusually vicious style. But what shocked me was the way public opinion sided with Tarrant's horrible wife. Far from despising, as I do, anybody who would stoop so low as to hire a detective for such a purpose, large numbers of people, including even Mr. Tarrant himself, seemed to think she was fully justified. Far from concluding, as I would, that he was well rid of her, he was covered with contrition and his unfortunate mistress was ejected, covered with odium. The explanation of all these anomalous behavior patterns is the ingrained assumption of the deep rightness and appropriateness of sexual jealousy. It is manifest all the way from Othello to the French “crime passionnel” law, down to the “love rat” language of tabloid newspapers.

From a Darwinian perspective, sexual jealousy is easily understood. Natural selection of our wild ancestors plausibly favored males who guarded their mates for fear of squandering economic resources on other men’s children. On the female side, it is harder to make a Darwinian case for the sort of vindictive jealousy displayed by Mrs. Tarrant. No doubt hindsight could do it, but I want to make a different point. Sexual jealousy may in some Darwinian sense accord with nature, but "Nature, Mr. Allnutt, is what we are put in this world to rise above." Just as we rise above nature when we spend time writing a book or a symphony rather than devoting our time to sowing our selfish genes and fighting our rivals, so mightn't we rise above nature when tempted by the vice of sexual jealousy?

I, for one, feel drawn to the idea that there is something noble and virtuous in rising above nature in this way. I admit that I have, at times in my life, been jealous, but it is one of the things I now regret. Assuming that such practical matters as sexually transmitted diseases and the paternity of children can be sorted out (and nowadays DNA testing will clinch that for you if you are sufficiently suspicious, which I am not), what, actually, is wrong with loving more than one person? Why should you deny your loved one the pleasure of sexual encounters with others, if he or she is that way inclined? The British writer Julie Burchill is not somebody I usually quote (imagine a sort of intelligent Ann Coulter speaking with a British accent in a voice like Minnie Mouse) but I was struck by one of her remarks. I can't find the exact quote, but it was to the effect that, however much you love your mate (of either sex in the case of the bisexual Burchill) sex with a stranger is almost always more exciting, purely because it is a stranger. An exaggeration, no doubt, but the same grain of truth lurks in Woody Allen's "Sex without love is an empty experience, but as empty experiences go it's one of the best."

Even sticking to the higher plane of love, is it so very obvious that you can't love more than one person? We seem to manage it with parental love (parents are reproached if they don't at least pretend to love all their children equally), love of books, of food, of wine (love of Chateau Margaux does not preclude love of a fine Hock, and we don’t feel unfaithful to the red when we dally with the white), love of composers, poets, holiday beaches, friends . . . why is erotic love the one exception that everybody instantly acknowledges without even thinking about it? Why can a woman not love two men at the same time, in their different ways? And why should the two – or their wives -- begrudge her this? If we are being Darwinian, it might be easier to make the case the other way, for a man sincerely and deeply loving more than one woman. But I don't want to pursue the details here.

I'm not denying the power of sexual jealousy. It is ubiquitous if not universal. I’m just wondering aloud why we all accept it so readily, without even thinking about it. And why don't we all admire – as I increasingly do -- those rare free spirits confident enough to rise above jealousy, stop fretting about who is “cheating on” whom, and tell the green-eyed monster to go jump in the lake?

Mercy...

What is absolutely astounding about this article is that Dawkins adds a NOTE to it after reading some of the comments...the back peddling is beyond belief.

After listening to and reading the vast difference of opinion between Craig and Dawkins, I'm just so very thankful that I have my biblical sense of morality. I'm also thankful for those reminders in scripture of what is *right* and what is *wrong* in regard to living the life we were designed to live.

Codes, Programs, and Information

In our experience, codes are produced only by intelligence, not by natural processes or chance. A code is a set of rules for converting information from one useful form to another. Examples include Morse code and braille. Code makers must simultaneously understand at least two ways of representing information and then establish the rules for converting from one to the other and back again.

The genetic material that controls the physical processes of life is coded information. Also coded are complex and completely different functions: the transmission, translation, correction, and duplication systems, without which the genetic material would be useless, and life would cease.a
...
[No] natural process has ever been observed to produce a program. A program is a planned sequence of steps to accomplish some goal. Computer programs are common examples. Because programs require foresight, they are not produced by chance or natural processes.

The information stored in the genetic material of all life is a complex program. Therefore, it appears that an unfathomable intelligence created these genetic programs.c

Life contains matter, energy, and information.d All isolated systems, including living organisms, have specific, but perishable, amounts of information. No isolated system has ever been shown to increase its information content significantly.e Nor do natural processes increase information; they destroy it. Only outside intelligence can significantly increase the information content of an otherwise isolated system. All scientific observations are consistent with this generalization, which has three corollaries:

-Macroevolution cannot occur.f
-Outside intelligence was involved in the creation of the universe and all forms of life.g
-Life could not result from a “big bang.”h Linky

The Avalon Explosion

Hmmm...this is interesting. It looks like we have another fossil explosion to consider other than the Cambrian.

In summary:

OK, that’s it. It’s over. Darwinists, give up! How many times does the evidence have to falsify your theory before you admit that this little worldview experiment was a bad trip? We are no longer going to allow you to believe in free lunches.

For an experience in complete bewilderment at the propensity for the human mind to cling to a false belief, read the Science Daily article in its entirety. This team of scientists has just seen a very non-evolutionary picture staring them in the face, and all they can see is evolution. “Well, what do you know – evolution proceeds explosively instead of gradually!” It’s enough to make one despair of the human condition. To despair even more, ponder the fact that these falsifications of Darwinism keep appearing at the very time the Darwinists and all the leading scientific societies are on the warpath to stamp out all opposition to evolutionary teaching. The inmates are running the asylum.

Whoo! Whee! You tell 'em. Darwinian Dogma Sucks.

New Hampshire Primary

With votes counted from 26 percent of the state's precincts, McCain was winning 37 percent of the vote, Romney had 28 and Huckabee 12. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had 9 percent, Texas Rep. Ron Paul 8.

Clinton, the former first lady who finished third in Iowa, was mounting an unexpectedly stiff challenge to Obama in the nation's first primary. Interviews with voters leaving their polling places showed she was winning handily among registered Democrats, while her rival led her by an even larger margin among independents.

She had 39 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary to 34 percent for Obama, who is seeking to become the nation's first black president. Former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina trailed with 17 percent.

Oy vey...NOT. CLINTON.

I've been kinda of leaning toward Obama and McCain, so I'm glad to see them at the top. If they both take the primaries, I'm going to have a hard time choosing between them.
