Elton John joins the bandwagon to end religion

LONDON (Reuters) - Elton John has said organized religion should be banned because it promotes homophobia and turns some people into "hateful lemmings."

'I Would Ban Religion Completely'

Sir Elton John thinks all religions should be banned because they turn people into "really hateful lemmings."

"I would ban religion completely, even though there are some wonderful things about it," the British singer said in an interview with the Observer newspaper on Sunday.

"Religion has always tried to turn hatred toward gay people. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it is not really compassionate."

The singer, who tied the knot with long-term partner David Furnish in a civil ceremony last year, said he admired the teachings of Jesus Christ, but disliked religious bodies.

"The reality is that organized religion doesn't seem to work," he added.

Sounds like he's been reading Dawkins latest book. Is he completely blind to the immense amount of good things that come from religious organizations? It appears by one of his comments that he has considered that fact.

Sounds to me that his gripe is due to his sexual preference and the fact that some people do not believe that same sex marriage should be legalized. It's interesting that he blames this perspective entirely on "religion". Even ancient pagan Rome never embraced and accepted homosexuality though it was openly acceptable.

Just for the record....I'm a Christian and I certainly do not "hate" homosexuals.
